INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS FOR VOLUNTEERING AT SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION IN NEPAL (BINDABASINI 2ND BUILDING)

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Bindabasini Basic School is a school for 35 children which was damaged during the earthquake
in 2015. The stone-clay walls of the original buildings collapsed, the steel construction and roofs remained, and the walls were temporarily replaced with corrugated metal sheets.
Over winter period 2019-20, a second school building will be reconstructed. The steel structure and the roof will be reused in the new building. The walls will be replaced with stabilized rammed earth. The project is funded by the Rotary Club and lead by a manager from Meem Architecture.
EXPERIENCE (PREFERRED)
Previous stay in developing countries (working or travelling)
General construction work skills, esp. with metal and corrugated sheets
Knowledge and experience in First Aid
VOLUNTEERS HAVE TO
Be able to adapt to low hygienic standard and monotone (yet tasty) vegetable-rice diet
Take an active interest in learning about other cultures and understanding diverse mentalities
Have patience, grace and a sense of humour
Finance the journey from their own resources - air tickets, visas, travel insurance, transport in Nepal, accommodation in Kathmandu, food in the village (approx. 350 NPR per day = 4.5 AUD)
